Certificate in Ecosystem Accounting
The aim of the syllabus is to introduce students to the subject of ecosystem accounting and provides the core knowledge of the underlying principles and major technical areas of this new and emerging accounting branch.
The course acquaint the student with the rationale behind – and the functions of – ecosystem accounting. The syllabus then considers the separate components an environmental-economist would need to have a detailed knowledge of, such as ecosystem extent, condition, services and assets.
Having covered the core areas, students should be able to value ecosystem assets in monetary terms and ecosystem services in physical & monetary terms, explain the basis of their calculations, compute ecosystem accounts, and be able to discuss environmental themes relevant to businesses and the public sector.
Diploma in Ecosystem Accounting
The Diploma in Ecosystem Accounting is a sequel to the Certificate in Ecosystem Accounting and is designed to give students an in-depth knowledge of ecosystem accounting.
The syllabus discusses the key concepts, tools, statistics and principles of valuation and integrated presentation of accounts. It is concerned with managerial decisions and actions that help the financial transformation of businesses, not-for-profit organisations and governmental organisations. The course is focused on the information, analyses, financial processes, and skills and business judgement financial managers must use to devise strategies for environmental-economics valuation.
After completion of the course students should be able to select and apply environmental-economic data, evaluate ecosystems and their services, analyse cost of environmental degradation and externalities, and draft environmental activity accounts.
